Monkey Mind

Cushions stacked, one on another,
The striking of a match,
The flickering of flame,
Smoke curling into the air
Through sunbeams
And bright green leaves.

The ringing of a bell
High and sweet
Then fading away,
Once, twice,
Three times
Then four.

Smooth round beads
Sliding through fingers
Their movement marking each breath,
Each breath marking their movement.
In,
And out,
In,
And out,
In…

We’re running out of hay,
I wonder if it can be delivered
With all the snow we have,
If it can’t,
What will we feed the horses?
We have some apples
And a couple of pumpkins left,
They don’t like the pumpkin
But I could chop them up
With the apples
If they get hungry enough…

Smooth round beads
Sliding through fingers
Their movement marking each breath,
Each breath marking their movement.
In,
And out,
In,
And out,
In…

…It’s late,
I got up late so will he be fixing breakfast
Before I’ve had my oatmeal?
I wonder what he’ll make,
Eggs and beans, probably,
We usually have eggs and beans,
But they’re always good
Maybe tomorrow we’ll have pancakes,
I could make the batter ahead of time
The he’d have it to cook
Whenever he wants to…

Smooth round beads
Sliding through fingers
Their movement marking each breath,
Each breath marking their movement.
In,
And out,
In…

…Should I start the commissioned work today?

I’ve only got six weeks to finish
But there’s the other project
That I’m in the middle of,
I could spend one more day on it
Before starting the paid work.
I wonder if tech support
Will get back to me today.
Can I work on it without them?
While they’re doing their magic
Out there in the cloud?
Maybe I should just start the other project…

Smooth round beads
Sliding through fingers
Their movement marking each breath,
Each breath marking their movement.
In,
And out,
In…

…And what did she mean by that?
I wonder if I’ve hurt her feelings.
I didn’t mean for her to take it that way
I should have said it differently.
What I should have said was…

Smooth round beads
Sliding through fingers
Their movement marking each breath,
Each breath marking their movement.
In,
And out,
In…

The ringing of a bell
High and sweet
Then fading away,
Once, twice,
Three times
Then four.

The blowing out of candles,
The picking up of cushions.

Eggs and beans…they’re always good. Typo, and yes they are!
Nice to see you can pull back to focus in mind calming. Good to see I’m not alone in distractions.
